Artist Statement- Ackerman points out that without touch we would not exist. In order to create life, touching must be involved. I drew the hands from the Creation of Adam by Michelangelo and painted the background black. We associate this famous image with the beginning of mankind. Since the fingers are not touching, there is no actual creation. The color black emphasizes darkness and nothingness. The idea is without touch there is nothing, we would be nonexistent.
